WhatsApp: Support Group Chats

The official WhatsApp API currently doesn't support Group Chats. 
Other platforms supporting WhatsApp Groups use unofficial APIs that often break. We will consider building this feature once it is released officially for WhatsApp API.
🔴 Important Note
:
As of October 2025, Meta has released native Group Chat support through WhatsApp cloud API. However, there's significant restrictions at this time: 
Group chat support is currently limited to businesses with at least 100,000 monthly business-initiated conversations
It is not available for Coexistence users yet
Because of this, once Meta expands eligibility and releases full documentation for all account types, we can consider to move forward. 
This is NOT a limitation on respond.io. This is a limitation set by Meta's team to all WhatsApp API accounts.

Cheryl Chiang: Hi! Thank you for sharing this! At the moment, Meta has not yet released official API support for WhatsApp Groups, and that’s why this functionality is unavailable on respond.io as well as other compliant providers.
For now, we’ll continue to monitor Meta’s roadmap closely, and once official group chat support becomes available, we’ll look at implementing it on respond.io.
We really appreciate your interest in this feature, and we’ll keep you updated if there are any changes.

Hello, do you plan to develop the functionality of creating WhatsApp groups in the coming weeks? We badly need it. I see that this feature request has been made for several years by various people.

Patrick Tharapannhas: Hi, thank you for your message and for highlighting the importance of this feature to your business.
At the moment, the limitation is not on the respond.io platform itself but rather on the WhatsApp Business API, which is provided and maintained by Meta. Currently, the API does not support the ability to create or manage WhatsApp Groups programmatically. This restriction applies to all providers working with the WhatsApp API, not just respond.io.
We completely understand how valuable this functionality would be. If Meta were to introduce support for group creation in the API in the future, we’d definitely explore ways to make it available on respond.io.
In the meantime, we’ll continue to monitor updates from Meta and keep our customers informed of any changes.

It would be great if we could have this feature soon, because sometimes talking to several contacts at the same time is ideal for getting more customers. For example, if you want to reach an agreement with the IT and Sales representative at the same time.

Currently, there's a limitation on platforms' side (not on ours) which prevents us from building a group chat feature for those specific channels. But once their API is available, we'll look into planning for these features soon.
